Scrum Master Mark, inspires at Ashton Centre

Last week, Mark Baillie one of our Scrum Masters visited Ashton Centre where he spoke at a prize giving ceremony for a group of young people who recently successfully completed a training programme.

The group of young people (All aged 16 – 24) are from the Lower Old park/Shankill area. They have completed a 6 week programme of training and personal development across a range of areas. These are all young people who have for some time, been disengaged from education, employment or training. Through attending the ‘SWWET’ Programme, all within the group have successfully completed a range of Level One, accredited training.

Mark is an extremely valued member of the Core team and is personally committed to helping young people realise their potential particularly in the areas of software development and digital media creation. Mark shared his own inspirational story with them and highlighted that it is possible, with the hard work and support, to get into a secure job in the IT sector with progression opportunities without following the ‘traditional’ education route.

We hope that Mark has inspired some of the young people to consider a career in the growing IT sector in Northern Ireland and to continue their training and seek progression and training throughout their lives.

The Ashton Centre is part of the Ashton Community Trust (ACT) which is a social enterprise and development trust that seeks to make North Belfast a better place for its residents to live and prosper. It does this through the provision of services, employment, training and community.
